Seminar Lesson: The Blessings of Giving Towards God’s Work

Welcome to this seminar hosted by the Freely Given Ministry

Introduction: The Call to Give for the Work of the Gospel

Giving is a foundational principle in the Bible. It is both an act of worship and obedience to God. Through giving, we support the spread of the gospel and position ourselves to receive God’s blessings. The Bible contains examples of individuals who gave generously and reaped divine rewards. This seminar will explore the scriptural foundation for giving, its impact on evangelism, and the blessings from supporting God’s work.

1. The Biblical Command to Give

Giving as an Act of Worship

  • Proverbs “3:9—“Honor the Lord with your wealth and with the first fruits of all your produce; then your barns will be filled with plenty, and your vats will be bursting with wine.”
  • Malachi “3:10—“Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this, says the Lord Almighty, and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it.”

Giving as an Act of Obedience

  • Deuteronomy 15:10—“You “shall give to him freely, and your heart shall not be grudging when you give to him, because for this the Lord your God will bless you in all your work and in all that you undertake.”
  • 2 Corinthians 9:6- “7—“The point is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.”

2. Giving Towards Evangelism and Ministry

The Role of Giving in Spreading the Gospel

The financial support of God’s work enables the gospel to reach the ends of the earth. Ministries like TUGN are actively involved in evangelism, and through the generosity of believers, the mission of Christ can continue unhindered.

  • Romans 10:14- “—How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him, whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching? And how are they to preach unless they are sent?”
  • Philippians 4:15-17—Paul acknowledges the Philippians for their financial support, saying, “Not that I seek the gift, but I seek the fruit that increases to your credit.”

Biblical Examples of Financial Support for Ministry

  • The Women Who Supported Jesus’ Ministry—Luke 8:1-3 records how certain women, including Mary Magdalene and Joanna, financially assisted Jesus and His disciples.
  • The Macedonian Churches— In 2 Corinthians 8:1-5, Paul commends the Macedonian believers for their generosity despite their poverty, giving beyond their ability to support the ministry.

3. The Rewards and Blessings of Giving

God’s Promises to Those Who Give

  • Luke “6:38—“Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.”
  • Acts 20:35—“It “is more blessed to give than to receive.”

Examples of Those Who Gave and Were Blessed

  • Abraham (Genesis 14:18-20)—After giving a tithe to Melchizedek, God blessed him abundantly and reaffirmed His covenant with him.
  • The Widow of Zarephath (1 Kings 17:8-16) – She gave her last meal to the prophet Elijah and received a supernatural supply of flour and oil.
  • Cornelius (Acts 10:1-4)—A Roman centurion known for his generosity and prayers, whose giving attracted the attention of God, leading to salvation for his entire household.

4. Practical Ways to Give to God’s Work

Financial Giving

  • Tithes and Offerings—Giving to your local church and ministries like TUGN ensures the continued spread of the gospel.
  • Faithful giving enables ministries to support missionaries and evangelists in reaching the lost.

Non-Financial Giving

  • Time and Talents—Serving in ministry through volunteer work.
  • Prayers—Praying for the success of evangelistic efforts.

5. A Call to Action

As believers, we are called to collaborate with God in His work. Giving is a spiritual act that leads to both material and eternal rewards. The world needs the gospel, and through the Freely Given Ministry, you can be a vessel in advancing God’s kingdom.

Challenge: Will You Commit to Supporting God’s Work Today?

Pray and ask the Lord how He would have you contribute. Your support is valuable in bringing salvation to the lost through financial giving, volunteering, or intercession.

Matthew 6:19-21—“Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven… For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”

May the Lord bless you as you give freely for the advancement of His kingdom!
